The State of the Union conference, now in its 13th edition, is the flagship event of the European University Institute. The event will take place on 4-6 May, 2023 in Florence, Italy.

#SOU2023 will consist of various sessions across the two days: on May 4, at the Badia Fiesolana, and on May 5 at Palazzo Vecchio. The conference will feature world-class political leaders and experts who will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Europe at a rapidly changing time in history.

The 2023 edition will focus on the most pressing issues on the European agenda, including the war in Ukraine and its complex geopolitical, economic and legal ramifications, and its impact on citizens’ daily lives. Issues related to ecological transition and energy security, digital and technological transition, and others will also be addressed during the event.

Participation in the conference is by invitation only; all sessions will be live-streamed on The State of the Union website.
